It was easier to walk to her now, easier to breathe the salt elixir. Not so long before a machine had breathed for him. The sand was soft under his knees as he knelt beside her. Sunglasses slid down the bridge of his nose and when he smiled, he felt unfamiliar crinkles. "I need some more sunblock, Scully. Slather me? "

"Umhmmph." She chewed her pen. "All my acrosses have made a down but I don't think that it's right. Is there a word--a real word--renovatio?"

The Walking Dictionary at her service. Sure. It means 'rebirth within one lifetime."'

Blue on hazel and one short nod. He pushed the glasses up,
turned eyes up to the gulls in the sky who spoke in strange voices.
